Absolutely recommend this to any artist or art student interested in the human figure. Highly informative book by one of the fathers of modern anatomy, you won't find this information any where else. Filled with detailed descriptions, illustrations and many beautiful sketches from life by Richer to illustrate each topic.In a world full of male skeletons and muscles, a book on female comparative anatomy is highly useful and will earn it's place as a favorite reference book.Very glad it has been translated into english!
This is a solid in depth look at the differences between male and female anatomy painstakingly derived from measurement and observation. Delving into details like hair growth patterns across the body and toe angles, I see it is a great addition to my own vast collection of anatomical reference. It is filled with illustrations that quickly describe visually each subject being discussed, and serve as a good guide to understanding why you see what you see. Much like his other staple book "Artistic Anatomy", I'm glad I have it, and I will refer to it often.

This classic, now in English for the first time thanks to Allana M. Benham, is a long overdue addition to the corpus of knowledge available to the figurative artist with its emphasis of female morphology. I only wish that there was a hardcover in a larger dimension format. Notwithstanding this is a beautiful book with a wonderful translation from the original French. Heartfelt thanks and congratulations to Allana for her work.
This is a great book for anyone interested in classical art. Written by one of the great teachers in 19th century France.
FINALLY! It's unbelievable a translation of Richer's work for female anatomy hasn't been done in the past, but it's amazing that it is now available. This is a MUST HAVE book for artists.
