setting backlash and patterning the gears, it contains No info I could find when using a crush washer on a ford 9"(also not including setting the pinion drag with inch pounds), and the pattern reading was skimpy at best.Do not recommend.
This book is very well laid out and does explain quite a bit with good detail and good pictures to illustrate the process of a rebuild. The only thing I thought was missing from the book would have been better detail on shimming the pinion gears to get the right pinion depth. There was not much detail on that. The book did go into how to install the shim but did not really mention how to adjust the depth. I had to watch videos on you tube to learn that. That was the whole reason for me purchasing the book. But like I said already it is a good book and will help the novice, like myself, in the rebuild of a differential.
This book makes it simple to do your own differential. I built my first 9 inch ford 9.10 posi 3rd member in 1973 without micrometers or anything, just by feel and the look of the mesh pattern. Worked like a charm. in 2016 I did my next one using this book; I also did an 8.8 using this book. Both of the rear-ends are whisper quiet and very, very clean.
I love this book for the knowledge I need for my Mustang project. This book is excellent learning material for me
There was very little info about setting a pinion bearing preload on the 8.8. I had to refer to several different you tube videos to get the job done right.
Very informative book. If you are repairing or rebuilding a Ford differential, this is the book for you. Clearly written with plenty of clear photos. Worth every penny.
